Fresh Chefs teamed up with CASA of Travis County, Capital Area Food Bank of Texas and Chef Taylor Hall to host September’s Youth Meet Up. The “Youth Meet Ups” are monthly meetings held by CASA for youth who will be transitioning out of foster care. The goal of the meetings are to address an independent living skill they will need once they are out of care. September’s theme was “Healthy Cooking on a Budget”.
Courtney Jones, former foster care and nutrition advocate openned the meeting with her powerful story and shared how food has changed her life. After her moving piece, it was food time! Fresh Chefs organized eight different cooking stations that focused on fast, cheap and nutritious meals. Youth had a chance to learn about the ingredients, where they came from, how much and left the station with a sample for munchin’!
