Mission:
Fresh Chefs Society empowers youth transitioning out of foster care with the skills necessary to take charge of their eating lifestyle and provides knowledge of the culinary arts through meaningful educational experiences with community cooks, chefs, and restaurants.
What do we mean when we say “Eating Lifestyle”?
We all have a unique eating lifestyle. It’s how we nourish our bodies. It’s where we shop for food — why we choose the foods we do. It’s how we prepare it and the creativity and the culture our food represents. Perhaps it’s green, cheesy, meaty, or grain filled. It may be filled with historical references, memories or lessons. It may be a clean slate, hungry for something new and fresh. Most importantly, it’s yours.
Anyone working with at-risk youth quickly understands why is the education system so bad at preparing young people for real life — it teaches almost nothing about nutrition, personal finance, emotional intelligence, or practical skills, leaving the most vulnerable kids without the foundational knowledge they need to live independently and thrive.
