Rebecca Meeker of Congress Guest Chef on Election Night

What better way to end the 2012 campaign season than cooking with Chef de Cuisine of Congress, Rebecca Meeker and a group of 13 teen ladies?

The ladies gathered in the kitchen and got right to work! This was the second Guest Chef event at the Settlement Home and as most of us know, word of mouth is the best form of advertisement. Many of the youth heard about Chef Dan Stacy’s bacon and Brussels sprouts, so they didn’t waste time signing up.  Guest Chef events maintain a waiting list at the Settlement Home :)

All agreed to at least try everything on menu – even the cardamom broccoli salad! Bringing good food to the tables in transitional living facilities is one of the main goals of Fresh Chefs – but we also want the tables to look just as special as the guests.

Menu: Roasted Chicken with Lemon, Broccoli Salad with Pine Nuts, Avocado and a Yogurt Dressing, Roasted Sweet Potatoes and Persimmon Bread Pudding.

Our Guest Chef brought her own guest – her mother! This was a treat for Fresh Chefs and the ladies because she was a nurse and offered a great perspective to why we eat healthy – to stay looking young and fresh, and to maintain active bodies.

Full bellies were not the only parting gift for the guests. Rebecca had shopping bags screen printed for the ladies for all their grocery shopping adventures.
