Where do we begin? Seeing as we are 100% volunteer run, it takes us a bit to get around to updating this lovely website, so when we do, we usually have catching up to do! We encourage you to follow us on Twitter or Facebook – we are much better at keeping those two current:)
We paired our first Apprentice with Sonya Cote of (many things) Hillside Farmacy, Homegrown Revival and her latest venture, Eden East Austin.

We cooked, shopped and dined with H-E-B and Capital Area Food Bank of Texas.
We celebrated our first year anniversary in April! We can hardly believe it’s been a year since we all sat down and began planning. To date, we’ve managed to reach nearly 250 youth through cooking and good food. That’s pretty good for the first year – wouldn’t you agree?
Our Apprentices prepared a Farmers Market Salsa for the Edible Austin’s Children’s Picnic and Real Food Fair goers. And as you could imagine, it was a hit.
We partnered with Tecolote Farms to bring 5 (YES 5!) Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) baskets to three transitional living facilities and two foster homes. Follow us on Facebook to see the dishes our youth are creating with fresh, local produce.
We cooked with Sonya Cote at Springdale Farms. Sonya shared some of her tricks, safety tips and introduced some new flavors to the group. Youth got a private tour of the farm, tasted wild greens growing on farm and met the chickens! What was on the menu? Roulade stuffed carrots, greens and fennel, topped with a crazy delicious gravy.
Barbara Frisbie of El Locavore and Rebecca Meeker of McGuire Moorman Hospitality joined us at The Settlement Home and Lifeworks for Guest Chef Nights. Barbara made Posole at the request of one of our young chefs.
Rebecca made flank steak, roasted carrots with English peas pesto and a summer salad.
