Fresh Chefs Society exists for you. We aim to empower, inspire, and support youth who are aging out of foster care through food. That means we want to show you how easy it is to cook your favorite foods in a way that is good for you and tastes good, too. That means we want to introduce you to the culinary world of Austin and create positive experiences around food. That means we want to help you develop crucial professional skills that will help you land a job - in and out of the food industry.

Here's what getting involved looks like:

  • Attend a cooking class near you. Right now we mostly serve the Austin area (hopefully that will change soon!). Check out our Calendar to see if anything sounds fun (or delicious). Also, ask your case worker, CASA, therapist, house parent, about us. Chances are, they know about Fresh Chefs and can help you connect with us.
  • Come to a potluck. This is a great way to meet Fresh Chefs staff, volunteers, and your peers who are involved with us. Bring a dish (or don't!) and gather around the table and learn about your new cool friends:) Potluck dates are listed on the Calendar page, but you can also email us and ask us to be added to the email list for the potluck invitations.
  • Apply for the Apprenticeship Program. Interested in learning more about what it takes to work in the food industry? Then consider applying for the Apprenticeship Program. The program runs January through June of each year and applications are accepted starting in November. With only six youth accepted each program cycle, we work hard to give each apprentice a one-on-one experience as they learn more about the food industry. Download the application here.
